ME & YOU Study
The establishment of healthy movement behaviours (i.e., physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep) in infancy is necessary to support young children’s development and well-being. Meaningful engagement of parents/guardians in supporting such behaviours is important due to parents' strong influence on their child’s behaviours. Before exploring educational interventions for parents/guardians to improve their active play knowledge and confidence, we are conducting a needs assessment to gain a more fulsome understanding of where parents/guardians living in Canada are currently sourcing their information pertaining to movement behaviours, their baseline levels of knowledge and confidence in this area, and their educational desires (including content and medium of delivery). This project will inform educational resource development and training for parents/guardians in Canada to ensure they feel well-equipped to facilitate their child's engagement in healthy movement behaviours.
